Arrive at Paro International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Spend the afternoon discovering Paro’s cultural landmarks, such as Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum, which offer an inspiring introduction to Bhutan’s history and traditions. Start the morning with a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliffside above the valley. The climb not only helps with acclimatization but also rewards you with sweeping views and a deep appreciation of Bhutan’s spiritual heritage. Explore the monastery’s sacred chambers before returning to Paro for a relaxed evening. Overnight in Paro.
Drive to Genekha to begin the Dagala Trek. The trail leads through terraced fields and pine forests before crossing a river and rising to a rocky viewpoint with broad valley panoramas. Continue upwards through peaceful yak-grazing meadows until you reach Gur, your first campsite at 3,290m.
Trek across open highland pastures and gentle ridges dotted with alpine flowers. After crossing a high pass with far-reaching views of Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan peaks, descend into the quiet Labatama Valley. Settle at the campsite beside Utsho Lake at 4,300m, famous for its golden trout.
Spend the day exploring the surrounding high-altitude lakes, including Sertsho and Jagetsho, each framed by dramatic mountains. If the weather is favourable, you may hike towards Aum Jomo for spectacular panoramic vistas of the Dagala range. Return to your lakeside campsite for the night.
Cross a scenic saddle that reveals magnificent views of Himalayan summits, including Everest and Kanchenjunga on clear days. The path undulates past yak herder shelters and follows the Docha Chu River before you reach the Pankha campsite at 4,000m. Those trekking in spring may walk slightly farther to find water.
Begin by traversing several small mountain passes rich with alpine vegetation. Gradually descend from the high ridges into the lower valleys, eventually reaching Chamgang village at 3,040m. Here, your vehicle will meet you for the drive to Thimphu, where you can enjoy a warm, comfortable evening.

The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a daily levy paid by visitors to support Bhutan’s development. Since the kingdom first opened its doors in 1974, guests have played a critical role in our country’s growth. The SDF is collected by the national exchequer and funds are allocated to various projects that create long-term, sustainable opportunities for the Bhutanese people, through free healthcare, education and training, upskilling the tourism and hospitality industry, improved infrastructure, environmental preservation and conservation, cultural preservation programmes and initiatives that support local businesses and economies. The SDF is also a vital means of maintaining the exceptional forest cover and carbon-neutrality for which our small nation is world-renowned and globally critical. The SDF also helps us to ensure that we can continue to offer guests tranquillity and an intimate experience. A correctly input visa application can take up to five days to process.
The SDF is USD 100 per night for adults from all countries except for India. Children aged between 6 years and who have not yet turned 12 are eligible to pay USD 50 per night. Children who have not yet turned 6 years old do not have to pay any SDF. The SDF for Indian nationals (showing a valid Indian passport or Voter ID card) is Nu. 1,200 (or the equivalent amount in Indian rupees) per person, per night. Children aged between 6 years and who have not yet turned 12 are eligible to pay Nu./INR 600 per night. Children who have not yet turned 6 years old do not have to pay any SDF.
